The rate increase, effective Jan. 1, 2014, is to fund the Capital Improvement Program, which will rehabilitate and repair the 60-year-old infrastructure. Rebates through Metropolitan Water District of Southern California are also available on washing machines, irrigation systems and sprinkler nozzles. During the fiscal year July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013, FMWD distributed $30,041 in rebates. The rebate program is designed to help FMWD be less dependent on imported water, which makes up 60 percent of its supply.
